If you were to trace Wes Clough’s career on a map, you’d find a route that winds through travel, telecoms, technology, education, engineering, startups and recruitment – leaving behind stronger brands, sharper communications and more than a few redesigned websites along the way.
Armed with a background in Graphic Arts and Design and a natural curiosity for how people connect with ideas, Wes began his career where many great marketers do: creating things, solving problems and figuring out how to make businesses stand out. What started as a passion for design quickly evolved into a career spanning more than two decades of marketing leadership, creative direction and strategic communications.
Over the years, Wes has worn many hats – designer, marketer, brand guardian, communications strategist, team leader, website builder, brand mascot, video producer and occasional miracle worker when deadlines seemed impossible. From helping travel companies inspire adventure to supporting global industrial brands, SaaS providers and ambitious startups, he’s built a reputation for combining big-picture thinking with hands-on execution.
One day he might be developing a communications strategy for a global product launch; the next, he’s behind a camera, editing a video, designing campaign assets or diving into HubSpot workflows. While many people choose between being creative or strategic, Wes stubbornly decided to be both.
His career has taken him through organisations including DFDS, Dawson & Sanderson, Activ Technology, Enerpac, Tribal Group and, most recently, RenQuip, where he leads marketing strategy, creative direction and brand development. Along the way he’s built teams, mentored colleagues, launched campaigns, managed brands and transformed complex ideas into stories people actually want to engage with.
Outside of work, Wes channels his leadership skills into serving as Chair of the Local Governing Committee at St Peter’s Primary School, where strategic thinking occasionally competes with the unpredictable logic of children. He also runs his own freelance creative business (this one), helping organisations bring their brands to life through thoughtful design and marketing. Away from the office, you’ll often find him cruising around in one of his beloved Mini Coopers – a red, white and black head-turner wrapped in the colours of his Wes Clough Creative Marketing brand. Part daily driver, part mobile portfolio, it perfectly reflects his belief that good branding should never stand still.
At heart, Wes is a storyteller. He believes that great marketing isn’t about shouting the loudest – it’s about understanding people, communicating clearly and creating experiences that leave a lasting impression. Whether he’s developing a brand, designing a campaign or crafting a compelling narrative, his goal remains the same: helping organisations tell their story in a way that matters.
More than 20 years later, he’s still convinced the best ideas start with a blank page and a healthy disregard for convention.
